Brief Discription of Rusk County

Rusk County is on the divide between the Sabine and Angelina rivers in the piney woods of East Texas. Originally, it was part of the Nacogdoches area.

Indians removed by Battle of the Neches: 1839
First Anglo settlers in eastern part: 1822
Beginning of extended settlement: 1839

Rusk County was separated from Nacogdoches County in 1843 with Henderson as the county seat.
