Congressman Charles Wilson began his political career in 1960 when he was elected to the Texas House of Representatives. He served in the Texas House of Representatives for six years and was then elected to the Texas Senate in 1966. On November 7, 1972, the second district of Texas elected Charles Wilson to the U.S. House of Representatives. He retired from the U.S. House of Representatives in 1996.
While serving in the U.S. House of Representatives Congressman Wilson was involved in local and international change. He created the first Big Thicket National Preserve, helped the Afghanistan freedom fighters and brought more Veteran Affairs services to East Texas.

Correspondence
Congressman Wilson's office used different methods to file correspondence, subject files and project files. 1973-1977 files are arranged alphabetically. 1977-1983 files are given a DIALCOM numbering system. For an index of the numbering system go to the DIALCOM numbers finding aide. 1984-1987 correspondence was given a document number and there is no index to know what each number represents. 1988-1996 filing was returned to an alphabetical arrangement.
