DESCRIPTION OF MANUSCRIPT COLLECTIONS

Wedding photo from ETRC photo collection. Many collections of family and personal papers found in the ETRC offer sources for study of a variety of topics such as early agriculture, economic conditions of nineteenth century Texas, daily life as related in diaries and letters, the Civil War, the role of women in nineteenth and twentieth century Texas, family relationships, and family history. Insight into business and commercial activities may also be gained by consulting collections of personal and family papers as well as corporate archives housed in the East Texas Research Center . A variety of organizations have donated records including historical societies, women's clubs, and civic groups. The collections have finding aids available to assist researchers in their use.

BOONE, MARY LOUISA JOHNSON. REMINISCENCES, 1952-1965. 1 VOL. (A-90)
Mrs. Boone wrote these reminiscences, chiefly in verse form, for her grand-children. She describes growing up in rural East Texas in the 1870's and 1880's including games, clothes, food, seasons, holidays, entertainment, and anecdotes about black servants, She includes brief genealogies of the Davis, Price, Johnson, and Boone families.

This collection consists of seven volumes of letterbooks of blotter copies containing legal correspondence to individuals, sheriffs, county clerks, and judges; and personal correspondence to friends and family. As a lawyer practicing in Austin, he was partners with J. J. Dennis and Alexander Stuart Walker, who later became District Judge of the 16th Judicial District.

George Louis Crocket was an Episcopal clergyman and historian of San Augustine and Nacogdoches, Texas. Collection includes correspondence, notes, clippings, photos, and other papers relating to Crocket which Brewer collected for a book which was never written.

This collection consists of government documents, Presidential Messages, broadsides, monographs, and other early imprints concerning American Indian treaties, land claims, removal, wars, and appropriations. The bulk of the materials relate to Cherokees, but Choctaws, Seminoles, Creeks, Wyandots, Chippewas, and other tribes are included.

Brooks was overseer of Sublett's plantations in San Augustine and Trinity Counties. Typed transcript describes crops, farm chores, trips, weather, and health of slaves. Biographical and genealogical information on Brooks and Sublett is included.

Anthony Robert Clarke was the first member of the family to settle in Texas. In 1822 he was joined in Nacogdoches by his widowed sister, Eliza Clarke Page, and her five sons. Most of the collection focuses on Eliza Clarke Pages' son Samuel Harrison Page and his descendants.
