TABLE OF CONTENTS

HISTORY

Guy Cox was born on March 8, 1894 in Big Fork, Arkansas. The son of a farmer, he attended seven years of grade school at Slatington, Arkansas. He first joined the National Forest Service in 1915 as a Forest Guard and Laborer. In 1918 he passed a Civil Service examination to become a Forest Ranger and served from 1919 to 1937 at several locations in Arkansas, and from 1937 to his retirement in 1953 he was District Forest Ranger of the Kisatchie National Forest near Leesville and Natchitoches, Louisiana. As a Forest Ranger, Cox was involved in fire fighting and prosecution of arsonists.

This collection includes personal and business correspondence; records relating to personnel transfers, pay increases, promotions, efficiency reports; service awards; poems and letters written upon the occasion of Cox's retirement; and Cox's homey reminiscences of his 35 years as a District Forest Ranger.
