BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Dr. Dan Beaty was born April 25, 1937 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, son of Oneida Vanderburg and Russell Beaty. He received B.M. and M.M. degrees from the University of Tulsa and a Ph.D. in composition from North Texas State University.

During his 35-year teaching career at Stephen F. Austin State University, Beaty taught piano, theory, composition, music history and electronic music. He created the Stephen F. Austin State University's Department of Music computer laboratory, and was named Regents Professor for research in 1982.

Dr. Beaty taught, composed, lectured and played professionally in the United States, France, Holland, Canada and Indonesia before his retirement from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1999. He died on March 12, 2002, at his home in Nacogdoches.
