HISTORY

Organized by representatives from Stephen F. Austin, East Texas, and Sam Houston State teachers colleges for historical and literary purposes, the East Texas Historical Association held its first annual meeting in 1927. About 1933 the Association ceased to exist. In 1962 the present organization was formed. The papers in this collection include records of both organizations as well as materials of historical interest which have been donated to the Association.

INVENTORY

Among materials which have been donated to the Association are papers of the Orviss family, a photocopy of the monthly return of a Frontier Battalion Company, photocopies of Civil War letters of Joseph H. Bruton, typescripts of personal correspondence of the Rushing family, and the Durst family collection. Materials, chiefly newspaper clippings, pertaining to the history of Gregg and Jasper counties, Sabine River navigation, the Connor feud, and Caddo Lake are in the collection.
