CREATOR SKETCH

Beginning with the fall semester in 1985, SFA Food Services, also called Campus Dining Services, a subsidiary of ARA (a for-profit, contracting company), took over campus meal preparations and service at the University Center and East College cafeterias and at the Hungry Jack Inn and Itza Pizza. ARA employees work at SFA but the company is affiliated with the university in no other way. SFA Food Services is accountable to the Director of Auxiliary Services at SFA as well as to the State Board of Health.

ARA instituted a number of changes during its first year at SFA. Suggestion boxes were added to allow students to respond to the services they were receiving. A student advisory group, The Menu Board, was formed to make sure the student voice was heard. Throughout the year, ARA provided "monotony breakers" to give students a change of menu. Cinco de Mayo, Mardi Gras, and Sundae on Saturday are a few examples of the "monotony breakers" that were created. Treat Yourself Right, which offers a healthier selection of food, was introduced within the first year ARA served SFA. During its second year with SFA, ARA added Itza Pizza, allowing students to purchase pizza by the slice. Through special events, holidays and innovative ideas, ARA strives to provide SFA students with a change in cafeteria dining.
