CREATOR SKETCH

The Nacogdoches Branch of the American Association of University Women was organized in the fall of 1930. Although the meetings during the early years were social events, within a short time, the organization began asking well-known speakers to lecture about their area of specialty. Study groups were formed on a variety of subjects for the edification of the members and the community at large. Money was raised for fellowships and scholarships by sponsoring book reviews and other activities.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection, which covers 1930-1974, includes minutes, notes, and scrapbooks for the organization. The highlights of the collection are the nearly complete newspaper clippings of the organization's publicity in Nacogdoches papers from 1934 through 1969. Correspondence, yearbooks, national journals, handbooks, and newspapers round out the collection.
A few of the Women of the Year programs for 1988-89, 1992, 1996 and 2002 have been added which were not part of the original collection.
