Oak Grove Cemetery can be found at the far east end of East Hospital Street along Lanana Street, just west of Lanana Creek, and north of downtown Nacogdoches, Texas. Although it is not the oldest cemetery in Nacogdoches, it has an historic connection to the area. It also has an inviting spirit which calls the visitor to come and sit and learn about our history by reading the headstones of its occupants.
Oak Grove Cemetery is one of the most beautiful and historic spots in East Texas. Walking through the grounds transports the visitor through the pages of Texas history, from the first time white men spied the area through to the modern day. Within a few feet, a visitor can see the resting places of patriots of the Texas Revolution, mourn with a father for his drowned children, and be awed by the intricate and delicate headstones of the old Catholic section.
Resting in this consecrated and holy site are many individuals whose work occupies a special place in the archives of the East Texas Research Center. As you enjoy this virtual walk through the Cemetery, you may be referred to collections which contain information on the people who left their mark on Texas history. We hope this tour will enliven your mind and fill your heart with gratitude for the far-sighted sacrifices of our Texas ancestors.
