The SFA Digital Projects department was formed in summer 2006 to develop and coordinate digital projects within Steen Library and to assist with digital project initiatives from the SFA community and beyond. The Digital Projects department has created new models for library service and outreach initiatives.

Currently, Digital Projects faculty are developing the TIDES (Teaching, Images, & Digital Experiences) Learning Consortium http://tides.sfasu.edu, funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). TIDES offers a digital gateway to rich historical, cultural and scientific resources held in Texas and Mexican libraries, museums, archives, historical societies, private collections, state parks, and wildlife preserves. These resources (photographs, scanned documents and artifacts, video, and more) are accompanied by custom-made, standards-based curriculum material and are freely available to teachers, students, and researchers worldwide. An online database of over 18,000 primary resources is also managed by Digital Projects.

Future projects will focus on digitization of collections and learning resources for the benefit of SFA, local, and international communities.
