Reserves

Reserving materials is a convenient way for faculty to allow the entire class to find assigned reading, special computer programs, cassettes, videos, and a collection of materials by classmates for projects

All materials placed on reserve must be in accordance with the University Copyrighted Works policy (Policy and Procedures Manual) AS-12.

Steps for placing/removing materials from reserve:

Fill out a Reserve Request Card from the Circulation desk in the library or over the web https://illiad.sfasu.edu/secure_forms/circ/reserve.htm

Items are placed on reserve on a first-come, first-served basis. Requests should be submitted as early as possible, at least two working days before the student assignment.

All materials except for "special materials" are removed from reserve automatically at the end of the fall, spring, and the second summer session. "Special materials" are Faculty Senate material, the University budget, Library Collection Development Statements, etc.

Reserve Online
Faculty members may place scanned or full-text articles on electronic reserve. For copyrighted material placed on electronic reserve, a copyright clearance form must be signed the first time the materials are submitted. Please contact the Reserve Assistant (468-1466) for assistance. E-reserves can be found here.

Software
Personal copies of programs may be housed at the Circulation Desk for student use in the Library Information Network Center (LINC). If compatible, Faculty may request personal copies of compatible software be loaded on LINC computers. Proof of licensure compliance must be provided. For more information see Faculty-Supplied Software Installation.

Personal and Library Materials
Personal copies and library materials are processed so they will be protected by the electronic exit checking device if desired by the owner. All materials are kept on closed shelves behind the Circulation Desks for better security.

Library Non-Circulating Materials
Library reference books or journals may not ordinarily be placed on reserve, although the librarian in charge of the subject area may grant permission for special circumstances.

Loan Periods

Traditional (Print) Reserves (search catalog by instructor or course)

The Traditional Reserve Collection includes print and audiovisual materials which circulate for short periods of time. Search for these materials in the Library’s catalog by  faculty name or course. Simply present a valid University ID to check out materials at the Circulation Desk.

Electronic Reserves (search by course number, course name, instructor name, or department)

Electronic Reserve Collection (ERes) includes digitized copies of documents such as sample exams, syllabi, problem sets, readings, lecture notes, and articles. ERes material is available 24/7 from any internet enabled computer on or off campus. When connecting from off-campus, you must access the Library’s website through mySFA.

The Library’s policy for Reserve Services is derived from the fair use guidelines of the United States Copyright Act of 1976 (17 U.S.C. Section 107).
